Obesity - a threat to your health

More and more people suffer from pathological overweight. People with a body mass index (BMI) of over 40 are considered obese. Not only can obesity result in life-threatening illnesses - it also leads to social exclusion. Many severely overweight people are restricted in their mobility and can no longer participate in social activities. This often leads to depression and loss of motivation. Obese are often unable to achieve weight loss on their own. For these people, the gastric balloon is a way to significantly reduce weight and, above all, in the long term.

The gastric balloon

This non-surgical treatment of obesity is a temporary supportive measure. A gastric balloon usually stays in the stomach for about 6 or 12 months. The silicone balloon is inserted endoscopically into the stomach and filled with an individually adjusted amount of liquid. A gastric balloon is suitable for obese people who, even after this time and appropriate weight loss, are confident that they can make a sustainable change in diet and lifestyle.

What is a gastric balloon?

The gastric balloon is used as an endoscopic, non-surgical procedure for weight loss. During an outpatient sedation procedure (twilight sleep), the balloon is inserted into the stomach via an endoscope and filled from the outside and is removed after about 6 or 12 months.

When does a gastric balloon make sense?

This method of weight loss is particularly suitable for patients with a BMI of 25-40kg / m². In the 6 months that the balloon stays in the stomach, a weight loss of 15-20kg is realistic. However, the patient is not allowed to do this stand in the way of high-calorie drinks or sweets.

Start your health concept and a new way of life. Advice in the run-up to an intervention plays a crucial role. Because every obese patient has a personal history that must be taken into account. Not only BMI, eating habits, behavioral patterns and lifestyle play an important role here, but also any accompanying diseases.
